Self-Study Tips

Advice For Students Who Plan to Self-Study for the TJ Admissions Test

For a variety of reasons your student may plan to independently prepare for the TJ test. Here we offer some advice for such students:

Math Skills

A strong performance on the math section requires a solid understanding of the fundamentals: arithmetic, algebra, geometry. Students should be able to quickly and confidently perform basic mathematical operations. Without a good foundation, solving more complex world problems is difficult. As you prepare, do not hesitate to review material from previous years. Memorizing the multiplication table (up to 12x12) and the list of perfect squares (up to 20 squared) can save valuable time. Do not use a calculator when practicing as they are not allowed on the TJ test.
